a thousand homes affected by power cuts in Normandy

Around 1,000 homes are without electricity in Normandy this Wednesday, January 3, 2024, in the morning. Spread across Calvados, Manche, Seine-Maritime and Orne, the incidents are due to the gale of the night. A return to normal is expected during the day.

This Wednesday, January 3, Enedis recorded around 1,000 customers without electricity in Normandy. “These are diffuse incidents.”explains distribution network manager. They are “very often linked to vegetation falling on the lines due to gusts of wind” which swept the region on Tuesday January 2 late in the afternoon and into the night.

Several sectors are more affected. This is the case in northern Cotentin, around Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and Digosville. In Calvados, we deplore cuts south of Caen, near Vieux and Maltot, on the Côte Fleurie, in Bonneville-sur-Touques, Canapville and Saint-Martin-aux-Chartains, as well as around Condé-en- Normandy.

Outages in this sector also extend to Orne, with customers deprived of electricity in Athis-Val-de-Rouvre. In Seine-Maritime, incidents have been recorded in the center of the department, notably near Saint-Maclou-de-Folleville, and in Martigny, near Dieppe. The Eure would obviously not be affected by the outages.

90% of the time, these occasional outages are linked to trees or branches falling on the lines. Each shock on a line generates a micro-cut. After three micro cuts, the system goes into safety mode and generates a clean cut.

Enedis affirms that all incidents are being processed, and that a return to normal should occur within the day for all affected households.
