(Washington) An American political movement announced Friday its intention to present an independent candidate, which, according to Democrats, could divide their voter base, before the November presidential election which should see Joe Biden and Republican Donald face each other Trump.
A centrist organization called “No Labels,” describing itself as a “national movement of common-sense Americans,” said it would begin a process to select its candidate next week.
“No Labels” has not yet given the name of any potential candidate and American media have reported that several politicians linked to the movement have given up on running.
The Democrats, however, secretly expressed the fear that “No Labels” would attract undecided voters away from Joe Biden, which could benefit rival Donald Trump.
“Even though we met virtually, their emotion and desire to bring this divided nation together shone through the screen,” said “No Labels” frontman Mike Rawlings in a statement released following the a meeting with its members.
“These citizens believe that this is a just cause and that ‘No Labels’ should give Americans what they want, another choice,” added Mr. Rawlings in the press release, assuring that 800 delegates have voted “almost unanimously” in favor of presenting a candidate for the presidency.
