An incendiary object was reportedly thrown at the window of Café Buon Giorno, located in the northeast of the city, shortly before 4.30 a.m. Wednesday.

The fire caused significant damage to Alberto Castronovo’s restaurant-bar, located on the ground floor of a residential and commercial building on Boulevard Couture.

This incident occurred 24 hours after two other arson fires in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal.

Residents upstairs were forced to be evacuated, even though the fire did not reach their homes by being quickly brought under control by the forty or so firefighters dispatched.

At least one family had to be taken care of by the Red Cross and two minors were inconvenienced by the smoke.

Neighbors spared

“The firefighters broke the door and smoke came in. All my business, all my articles have a scent of burning. But the fire did not enter my store, “says the owner of a store in the building, who noted the damage in the morning.

The smoke also infiltrated the Auto École Maestro driving school, a little further away.

“There is a small layer of ash, but nothing damaged,” says Christina Shulikov, an employee of the company.

She does not seem surprised that such an event took place.

“There was still a lot of chicane on the side. There were screams and fights all the time, ”she says.

The investigation was transferred to the arson section of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal. No arrests have yet been made.
