Bad weather: derailment of a train near Lyon

Rescuers evacuated passengers from a TER train which derailed shortly before 7 p.m. on Sunday April 28. The train carrying around 200 people found itself stuck south of Lyon, at Grigny-le-Sablon (Rhône). No serious injuries, but a pregnant woman is shocked and a man is slightly injured in the knee. Léo Chapuis, journalist at France 3 Rhône-Alpes and present on the train, recounts the moment when the train derailed. “It made a big boom, a big shock, and then the passengers in the front saw stolen stones”he confides.
Interrupted traffic
The TER is still blocked on the tracks. Work is underway to secure the area and clear the device. Leaving Firminy, this train was to reach Lyon Perrache. The collapse of this embankment was caused by 24 hours of heavy rain. After this accident, the SNCF does not commit to the date of resumption of traffic between Givors and Lyon.
