A teacher attacked and injured by students in Reims

Late in the afternoon this Friday, January 12, a teacher and a principal education advisor at the Joliot-Curie high school (Reims) were attacked by a group of students. The professor is hospitalized. He reportedly suffered a broken jaw. Two students are in police custody.

While two students were fighting at the Joliot-Curie high school (Reims) late in the afternoon this Friday, January 12, 2024, a teacher and a principal education advisor intervened to try to separate them, when a another group of students attacked them.

The professor was taken to the emergency room and reportedly had a broken jaw. Two students over the age of sixteen were taken into police custody. Information confirmed this evening by the Reims public prosecutor François Schneider. The initial causes of the brawl are currently unknown. An investigation was entrusted to investigators from the local judicial police service in Reims.

At the end of the evening, the rectorate sent a press release to the editorial staff in order to “strongly condemn” aggression. “No threats or attacks, physical or verbal, can be tolerated towards National Education staff.” The rector assures the two victims of his “full support”. He will be present at the school from the morning of Monday January 15.

The two students involved in this attack were excluded as a precautionary measure. A disciplinary council will have to rule on their fate. A psychological unit must be set up to support students and educational staff who so wish.
