Health: a tax envisaged in the event of an appointment not honored with the doctor

Health: a tax envisaged in the event of an appointment not honored with the doctor – (France 2)

Each week, 6% to 10% of patients do not show up for their doctor’s appointment. The government is considering introducing a tax.

Unkept doctor appointments are becoming more and more common. A general practitioner in the Paris region accounts for around fifteen per month. Most of the time, these are patients he does not know. “For me, it’s a loss of opportunity for the patients I was unable to see”, indicates Dr Jean-Luc Leymarie, general practitioner. With 27 million unfulfilled appointments per year, these indelicacies are on the rise.

Payment of a lump sum

To make patients responsible, the government decided to make them pay. A tax is being considered. The insured who does not cancel an appointment could pay a lump sum. “It will make people aware that they must respect their commitment”, indicates a woman. For the moment, there are no details on the implementation of this tax, which would perhaps prevent 6% to 10% of patients from showing up for their appointment each week. .
