A serious accident occurred on the A7 motorway at the end of the morning this Wednesday, May 18. The accident occurred near Chasse-sur-Rhône, in northern Isère. It involves a light vehicle and a tank truck classified as “transport of dangerous materials”. The accident occurred in a south-north direction, towards Lyon.
At 4:30 p.m., operations were still in progress and traffic was still cut off. It is advisable, to from Lyon, follow the direction of Grenoble then the A49 in the direction of Valence.
Emergency services are on site and the highway has been cut off in both directions. A security perimeter is in place. According to information from the released Dauphiné, a leak was detected aft of the damaged tank, which is currently lying. This transports carbon disulfide.
The emergency services engaged 26 vehicles and several dozen firefighters. During the accident, a 70-year-old driver was seriously injured and taken to hospital, according to the daily. However, the driver of the truck is unharmed.
The accident and the cutting of the A7 motorway caused major traffic problems. At midday, a 7 km plug had already formed.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., the Isère prefecture warns road users: “the highway is closed in both directions for several hours”. The authorities recommend avoiding the sector and using the secondary network.
To circumvent the obstacle, motorists must leave the A7 motorway at Chasse/Rhône (exit n°8) and at Vienne Sud (exit n°11). Entrance to Vienne Nord (n°9) is prohibited.
