“a t-shirt, shoes and panties” found, the prosecutor’s update on the investigation

This Tuesday, April 2, the public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence Jean-Luc Blachon speaks about the investigation into the death of little Emile. He returned to the investigations carried out since July. Clothing was found near where the skull was discovered.

What there is to know

He had not yet spoken publicly since his services resumed the investigation. Since March 30, many questions remain unanswered. While little Émile’s skull was discovered three days ago, the investigation resumed in Le Vernet near a hiking trail. Jean-Luc Blachon, public prosecutor of Aix-en-Provence, reports the disappearance this Tuesday, April 2 at 6 p.m. in the premises of the judicial court.

  • A skull was left at the police station Saturday March 30 by a woman defined as “a walker” according to several media. The bones were authenticated on Sunday as belonging to young Émile, who disappeared from his grandparents’ house last July.
  • The investigation has massively resumed since Monday April 1st around the hamlet of Haut-Vernet. The research, carried out by around a hundred people, gendarmes, anthropologists and dog teams, focused on the edges of a hiking trail in a steep, wooded area.
  • Many questions remain unanswered. Although we now know that young Émile is dead, we know nothing about the causes of his death and the circumstances of his disappearance. Did he have an accidental fall? Is the criminal trail favored? Why was there no trace of him for nine months? How can we explain the discovery of bones in an area already searched by investigators?
