A synagogue in Dollard-des-Ormeaux was vandalized

A synagogue and a Jewish community organization in Dollard-des-Ormeaux were vandalized. “An incendiary object was thrown at the front door of the synagogue, causing minor damage and a minor fire which was quickly stopped,” said SPVM agent Sabrina Gauthier.

The community center which houses the offices of Federation CJA, very close to the Congregation Beth Tikvah synagogue, was also vandalized, again causing minor damage to the rear of the building.

The buildings were empty and no one was injured.

“The investigation is ongoing,” notes Officer Gauthier. For the moment, we have no suspects and no arrests. »

Federation CJA speaks of “what appears to be an attempted firebombing” and asserts that “the perpetrators of these acts must be held accountable.”

The organization claims to be in contact with the SPVM to ensure the safety of the community. “At present, there is no indication that the Jewish community of Montreal is under greater threat,” nevertheless specifies the organization, which will hold a press briefing at its offices in Côte-des-Neiges this afternoon.

More details will follow.
