Almost sixteen years after the discovery of Caroline Marcel’s body in the Loiret, a man was arrested. This suspect aged 34 years old was placed in pre-trial detention following his police custody in Toulouse in Haute-Garonne, as part of the investigation into the murder of the jogger, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office told franceinfo on Thursday January 18 . Caroline Marcel was found dead in Olivet, near Loiret in 2008. This man was arrested on Tuesday.
The case is being investigated by the Cold Case center in Nanterre, in Hauts-de-Seine. The body of Caroline Marcel was discovered with a swollen face and showing traces of blows. She had been strangled.
The suspect is presented Thursday to a judge of freedoms and detention in Toulouse, with a view to his transfer to Nanterre, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office told franceinfo. He was therefore placed in pre-trial detention and “his presentation before Nathalie Turquey, investigating judge at the serial or unsolved crimes unit in Nanterre should take place on Saturday January 20 in the afternoon”adds the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office.
