A suspect has been arrested for a murder in Montreal, announces the SPVM

The Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) announced Monday that it arrested a suspect on Sunday in connection with the murder of a man on Le Plateau-Mont-Royal.

The suspect, aged 22, is expected to appear at the Montreal courthouse by the end of Monday. He will be charged with first degree murder.

The crime, committed at 5 a.m. on Sunday, was on the 10e homicide of the year in Montreal.

The victim, aged 33, was discovered by chance by a passer-by. Emergency services attended the scene after a 911 call.

“When police arrived, they located a man in his 30s who was unconscious. CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) maneuvers were carried out, but unfortunately the man’s death was noted on site,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant on Sunday.

A large security perimeter, made up of Villeneuve and Hutchison streets, Mont-Royal avenue and Jeanne-Mance street, had been erected to protect the crime scene and facilitate the work of investigators.

The SPVM mobile command post and forensic identification technicians were dispatched to the site.
