In two days, Stéphane Galissaire, surfer in Lège-Cap Ferret in Gironde, saved seven people from drowning. He watches the beach, because the lifeguards will not start their season until June 15.

Wednesday, May 18, a surfer watches the swimmers at lightship-Cap Ferret (Gironde), while one of them nearly drowned. “I took my board and left as quickly as possible to try to rescue this person”, says Stéphane Galissaire, vice-president of the peninsula’s surf club. In the middle of waves of 2.50 m, he revives the young man and brings him back with the strength of his arms. “It’s the adrenaline that also allows you to surpass yourself in these moments”, he confides.

On this beach, the lifeguards will not arrive until mid-June, so Stéphane Galissaire has decided to save the beach on a voluntary basis. In two days, he saved seven people. He asks that tourists can be trained in the risks of the ocean. The town hall cannot bring rescuers earlier. According to her, they are not available and this would represent a colossal additional cost.
