A super final that does Miha Fontaine good

(Sportcom) – Miha Fontaine is having a rollercoaster 2022-2023 season with some results below her expectations. The 19-year-old freestyle skier, however, had plenty to smile about on Sunday when he reached the Aerials World Cup super final in Engadin, Switzerland.

Fontaine started his day strong by finishing second in qualifying thanks to a Full Double Full-Full back that earned him a score of 118.14 points.

The Quebecer did it again in the first final where he finished fifth with 112.39 points. He thus obtained his ticket for the super final, to his delight.

“My jumps in qualifying and in the final were done almost perfectly. My landings were super good and there were no breaks in form. I’m happy to have finally gone for a good consistency, it’s getting better and better, “said Fontaine.

Unfortunately for her, a small mistake on her final jump dashed her medal hopes. He finished the competition in sixth place by virtue of his score of 89.14 for his back double Full Full-Full.

However, the Olympian from the Beijing Games did not want to let this misadventure in the super final depress him. He will want to continue in the right direction in two weeks in Almaty at the last World Cup on the calendar.

“I was a bit disappointed to have missed my jump in the super final, but the rest of the day went really well and I can’t be sad or angry after all. I am happy with my sixth place, it proves that I am among the best in the world, I can’t wait to go to Almaty. The goals will be big, but very realistic,” added the man who ranked 17th in the worlds in Bakuriani.

This is the second time this season that Fontaine has reached the super final. He took fifth place in the World Cup presented at Le Relais station last January.

The Ukrainian Dmytro Kotovskyi took the honors of the competition by beating the Swiss and recent world champion Noe Roth in the grand final. They were accompanied on the podium by the American Christopher Lillis.

Also from the first final, Alexandre Duchaine took 12th place overall, he who did not land well on his last jump, good for 79.38 points. Duchaine had secured 10th place in qualifying earlier.

As for him, Émile Nadeau saw his day end in qualifying where he ranked 21st. Same story on the women’s side for Marion Thénault (16th) who was unable to get her pass for the finals.
