The sun hung smiles on the faces of people and families who strolled Sunday afternoon in the Quartier des spectacles in Montreal. Everyone seemed happy to enjoy this sunny spring Sunday.
A stone’s throw away, at the Maison symphonique, Iveta Apkalna, titular organist in Hamburg, performed on the Grand Orgue Pierre-Béique (6489 pipes) works by Bach and Glass which delighted the audience — three encores! The breadth of sound produced by this great organ amazed me, as well as the dexterity, the mastery of execution of Iveta Apkalna.
Every time I enter the Maison symphonique, I feel good. I am happy to be here, in a room where the light and warm woodwork reflects the quality of the interpretations of the greatest composers from around the world. And as if to add to the soothing joy of being there on this Sunday, the prettiness and smile of my immediate neighbor on the floor, no doubt a music lover, wearing a light red dress printed with flowers which gave her an air of summer. Yes, this Sunday afternoon at the Maison symphonique was pure happiness.
