A researcher at New York University has developed a technique that makes the product that protects against UV rays thicker and more difficult for the skin to absorb. Still in the industrialization phase, this sunscreen could be marketed in 2025 or 2026.

This is good news for those lucky enough to go to the beach in the sun, there is now a sunscreen that remains effective for more than 24 hours. So, we will no longer need to reapply it regularly to stay protected, a single application will be enough. This could change everything, especially for parents who spend their time running after their children every two hours to slather them with cream.

If sunscreen loses its effectiveness after two hours, it is for two reasons. First, because the cream is gradually absorbed by the skin. And above all, because the active product it contains, a product called avobenzone, which absorbs UV rays and is therefore essential, disintegrates when exposed to the sun. It is as if umbrellas began to melt when they are wet. This is why we are obliged to regularly reapply cream. A researcher from New York University has developed a technique that prevents this famous active product from disintegrating. And according to her tests, protection is guaranteed for more than 24 hours. Which is more than enough. You can spend your whole day at the beach, in any case, the sun will eventually set.

With this technique, the product that protects against UV rays becomes thicker and therefore more difficult for the skin to absorb. This is also what improves its effectiveness. As a result, no more small, discreet oils that are absorbed quickly. With these new creams, everyone will be left with big, white marks, like children. It’s not the prettiest thing, but at least it will be effective. That’s the price to pay to stay protected without having to slather yourself every two hours.

If you are interested, for this summer, it’s a miss. These sunscreens are not yet available. They are in the process of being industrialized. But as with any pharmaceutical product, it always takes a little time. Because you first have to check for allergies and possible side effects. So, we won’t see them in pharmacies for a year or two. In the meantime, don’t forget to reapply cream every two hours, otherwise it’s useless.
