A text against “hair discrimination” was adopted by the National Assembly on Thursday March 28. Guests of 19/20 info, Olivier Serva, LIOT deputy who carries the text, Ambre Andrieu, Miss Aquitaine 2021, and Jean-Loup Bonnamy, associate professor of philosophy, react to this adoption.
On Thursday March 28, the deputies adopted a text against “hair discrimination”, particularly at work. The text from Guadeloupean MP Olivier Serva (independent LIOT group) was adopted before being sent to the Senate, where its future is uncertain. It aims in particular to prevent employers from forcing their employees to straighten their hair to hide their afro cuts in particular.
“It is a suffering for millions of men and women in France. It is a question of naming the evil from which these victims suffer”explains Olivier Serva in 19/20 info. “It is also a public health problem, because women who use straightening products are three times more likely to have uterine cancer”he adds.
“It’s real evil.”
Asked about the fact that she was a victim of hair discrimination, Ambre Andrieu, model and Miss Aquitaine 2021, indicates in the 19/20 info: “It’s been a subject all my life.” “It’s real evil.”, she adds. Jean-Loup Bonnamy, associate professor of philosophy, for his part thinks that this law “goes a little too far”. He argues in the 19/20 info that it will allow employees, whoever they are, to“have the most exuberant cuts”.
