The return home is difficult for many Montrealers at the dawn of the Easter break. Service is gradually resuming on the orange metro line after a breakdown of more than two hours, Communauto service is disrupted and a statue of Jesus blocked traffic on Saint-Denis Street.
Service was interrupted between the Berri-UQAM and Montmorency stations between 4 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. The interruption was due to an intervention by emergency medical services, indicated the Société de transport de Montréal.
A special bus service shuttled between Henri-Bourassa and Berri-UQAM stations. However, the number of users waiting for buses is much higher than the places available on these shuttles. Around 5:45 p.m., the queue for one of these buses went around Place Émilie-Gamelin, near the Berri-UQAM station.
Bad luck for Montrealers who turned to car-sharing options to get home. Early Thursday evening, a technical problem caused disruptions in the use of the Communauto service. “We are working to resolve the situation,” the company said on its application.
Traffic was also affected in the Rosemont district. A statue of Jesus crucified temporarily blocked traffic Thursday on rue Saint-Denis. The cross, which was on the back of a truck, was not able to pass under the Carrières viaduct. The top of the statue had to be sawed off before traffic could be restored.
