The Blues put on a show on all pitches this weekend. With an oval ball against England, in a burning Groupama Stadium, but also on skis near Canmore (Canada), Sunday March 17. Faller of England in a very offensive Crunch, the XV of France showed the path to success for the French biathletes, who shone during the last race of the season. The Belgian Jasper Philipsen and the table tennis player Félix Lebrun also achieved remarkable performances.
Rugby: the XV of France takes on England in the Crunch, sacred Ireland
If the Tournoi des Bleus started badly, it ended with a touch of madness worthy of the greatest Crunches in history. In a meeting which decided Ireland’s runner-up in this 2024 Six Nations Tournament, the French and English competed without restraint in the duels as well as in the game, Saturday March 16. Thanks to tries from Nolann Le Garrec (20th), Léo Barré (56th) and Gaël Fickou (60th) but above all thanks to a saving penalty from Thomas Ramos (79th), the French XV won against England, his third success in this 2024 Tournament.

The Blues finished in second place with three victories, a draw and a defeat, three points behind the XV du Trèfle in the standings. In the third meeting of the weekend, Italy scored an important victory against Wales, thus achieving the best record in its history in a Tournament, and condemning the Welsh to the wooden spoon.
Cycling: Jasper Philipsen styles Pogacar and wins the Primavera
Milan-San Remo does not always crown the strongest runner, but often smiles on the one with the best flair. This was the case of Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck), who won by a gut during the Italian Monument ahead of Michael Matthews (Team Jayco-AlUla) and Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates). The Slovenian, very active in the latest difficulties, did not manage to break away from his main competitors, in particular Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek).
Cycling: Milan-San Remo, the first Monument won by Philipsen
This Saturday took place the first Monument of the season: Milan-San Remo. During the Primavera, it was Jasper Philipsen from the Alpecin-Deceuninck team who won despite several attacks from Tadej Pogacar and a more than sustained pace.
Jasper Philipsen took advantage of Van der Poel’s work in the final kilometers, extinguishing attacks from Matej Mohoric, Matteo Sobrero and Tom Pidcock. The green jersey of the Tour de France 2023 wins his first monument at the age of 26, and becomes the first sprinter to win the Primavera since Arnaud Démare in 2016.
Ligue 1: PSG led by Mbappé, the right operation for Nice and Rennes
After three consecutive draws, PSG had to restart the machine against Montpellier. After a contested first period, the Parisians accelerated in the wake of Kylian Mbappé, author of a hat-trick to become the 8th top scorer in the history of the championship at 25 years old (188 goals). In contact at the break, Montpellier then conceded four goals (2-6). Eight days from the end, PSG foresees a 12th championship title.
Among the good operations of this 26th day of Ligue 1, we will note that of OGC Nice. Francesco Farioli’s men, who had not won in the league since January 27, went for victory in Lens (1-3). The Niçois are 5th, Lens follows suit. Another good operation, that of Rennes winning at home against Olympique de Marseille, which marks a halt with a second defeat in a row since the arrival of Jean-Louis Gasset (2-0).
Biathlon: Lou Jeanmonnot for the last, Lisa Vittozzi for a first
The season couldn’t end better for Lou Jeanmonnot. Excellent during the pursuit, which she finished in second place behind Lisa Vittozzi, the young Frenchwoman won the first mass start of her career in Canmore (Canada), for the last race of the 2024 biathlon season.
A double blow for the young Jurassian, who thus won the small globe of the discipline, ahead of Julia Simon (7th in the race) and Ingrid Tandrevold (8th) at the finish. In the general classification, Lisa Vittozzi pockets her first big crystal globe, succeeding Dorothea Wierer, crowned in 2020, on the Italian biathlon list. Lou Jeanmonnot finished 2nd in the general classification.
Table tennis: Félix Lebrun in history in Singapore
New darlings of their sport in France, the Lebrun brothers distinguished themselves during the WTT tournament in Singapore, the equivalent of a Grand Slam. If Alexis, 20th player in the world, lost in the first round during the week against Chinese legend Ma Long (world number 3), Félix Lebrun became the first European table tennis player to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament. The young 17-year-old Frenchman, however, lost against Wang Chuqin, 2nd player in the world and future winner of the tournament, in five sets (4-1).
Despite this defeat, Félix Lebrun took advantage of Lin Gaoyuan’s bad tournament and climbed to fifth in the world. Next week, the two brothers will be in Montpellier, to take part in the French championships of which Alexis is double title holder.
