A student from Bergerac (Dordogne) had her identity stolen by a fraudster on the trains and the SNCF is demanding a 2,000 euro fine from her, France Bleu Périgord learned on Tuesday February 27. On February 10, Maeylis checks her account on a banking app. She realizes that she is 400 euros short following a withdrawal of more than 500 euros from the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFIP). The young girl was not fined and does not understand the reason for this levy.

The work-study student contacted the public finance center in Bordeaux and after two days, around fifty calls and an email, she learned that she had taken seven trains with an increased fine each time. The young girl has not traveled, she understands that her identity has been stolen. She still owes them around 1,300 euros.

His studies financially compromised

Aware of the problem, the SNCF admits to France Bleu Périgord that it has no solution because the controllers cannot check the identity cards of the fraudsters. “Everyone is aware of the flaw but no one is doing anything”, confides Maeylis, destitute, to France Bleu Périgord. On the DGFIP side, no solution either because identity theft must be proven to the police and the courts. Levies for the total repayment of the debt should therefore continue in the months to come.

The first time it happened, at the beginning of February, Maeylis, a young accounting apprentice, had 100 euros to finish the month.

“More than 60% of my salary was taken from me.”

“I get anxious as soon as I log into my bank accountshe confides. I’m at work and someone takes my name to go for a Bordeaux-Paris flight which will be increased to 375 euros in my account a year later.” This situation even makes him question his studies. She planned to continue her BTS degree next year, but the charges could prevent her financially from continuing.
