Unions are calling for pharmacies to be closed until Monday May 20. It is accompanied by a guards’ strike throughout the weekend. Update on their demands.

A guards’ strike is organized by pharmacists’ unions throughout France, the weekend of Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19. They wish to draw attention to the challenges and dangers facing the profession, and to defend access to care. Since the start of the year, 46 pharmacies have closed. “The drop in margins and the increase in costs mean that pharmacies are doing badly economically”comments Pierre-Olivier Variot, president of the USPO.

Pharmacists also wish to challenge the population and the public authorities on shortages of medicines, or even the postgraduate reform of pharmacy studies. Finally, they want to warn against a bill aimed at promoting the sale of medicines on the internet. A strike notice has been filed for May 30. The 20,500 pharmacies in France could lower the curtain. Demonstrations are planned throughout the country.
