A strike by lifeguards threatens the opening of Parisian swimming pools

A social movement of lifeguards and technical agents is currently impacting Parisian swimming pools. Strike notice runs on all summer holidays but in reality it has been going on since the end of winter.

The social movement does not touch not all pools at the same time, does not take place only during certain hours of the day. It is therefore difficult to know if when and how long establishments can close, yet the return of heat is announced for next week. “The fairly restrictive safety devices mean that the closures can be effective if only one agent is missing”explained the City’s sports assistant, Pierre Rabadan, during a press briefing.

In total, between the closures and the social movement, 16 swimming pools out of 42 were indicated as partially or completely closed this Friday on the site of the city of Paris.

Officers protest against working time reform, it put an end to the exemptions and imposes the 35 weekly hours since January 1st. Discussions are continuing between the unions and the town hall.

The City of Paris, which nevertheless confirms the opening, on July 9, of six ephemeral swimming pools for Paris Plages.
