The events took place late in the morning on Saturday April 6 at the Emergency Department of Challans (Vendée), about sixty kilometers from Nantes. Several people accompanying two patients reportedly became angry, frustrated by the waiting time. According to the public prosecutor, the victim, left unconscious on the ground, was hit by one of them and was hospitalized in intensive care.

The caregivers stunned

They were all shocked. “Their first concern was to continue to take care of the patients who were there and provide first aid to their colleague”, explains Francis Saint-Hubert, director of the Vendée hospital center. The victim’s state of health is now stabilized. The police took his testimony. The Minister of Health, Frédéric Valletoux, denounced this tragedy on X. Following the attack, the emergency department of Challans hospital was closed for several hours. An investigation into violence against medical staff has been opened.
