Now we have to finish the job. After having blown up the pink jersey, Richard Carapaz, on Saturday, on the slopes of Malga Ciapela, Jai Hindley, new leader of the general, must defend his place, Sunday May 29, on the last stage of this Giro 2022. For this, he will have to ensure on an exercise which has not always been successful for him: the time trial.
But Hindley took the lead to avoid reliving the same scenario as in 2020, when he was beaten at the post by Tao Geoghegan Hart during the time trial of the last stage. The Bora-Hansgrohe rider has a lead of 1’25 over Carapaz and 1’51 over Landa. Victory should therefore not escape him, unless there is a major failure. On the French side, Guillaume Martin, 14th can scratch a place if he takes 19 seconds from Lucas Hamilton. Arnaud Démare will bring back the cyclamen jersey for the second time in his career.
