As if the return of the curfew was not enough, Mother Nature will add a layer, for New Year’s Day, while freezing rain and snow are expected this weekend, in some regions of Quebec.
Many families were hoping to enjoy the outdoors this weekend, but to kick off the new year, southern Quebec will instead receive heavy precipitation on Saturday afternoon.
The sectors concerned according to Environment Canada are Bellechasse, Côte-de-Beaupré, Île d’Orléans, Lévis, Lotbinière, Portneuf, Quebec, Saint-Lambert as well as Valcartier and Stoneham.
An episode of freezing rain that could affect regions near the St. Lawrence River and Chaleur Bay is also possible.
Areas further north and east of the province will receive significant amounts of snow.
The storm will sweep a good part of the province, going from Pontiac to the Bas-Saint-Laurent and from Montreal to the North Shore, via Estrie and Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean.

Before the freezing rain hit Quebec, several families took advantage of the mild weather on Thursday evening to treat themselves to a dose of strong emotions in the slides of the Terrasse Dufferin.
Weather cocktail
It is a low pressure forming over the southwest of the United States that will be at the origin of this weather cocktail.
Moderate to strong winds will cause mercury to drop for Sunday.
Although it does not know exactly how much precipitation is expected for Saturday, the federal agency recommends caution when traveling.
“Evaluate the possibility of anticipating or delaying any non-essential movement,” it was stated.
