Born in Newark, New Jersey in the 1930s, the singer-songwriter, producer, director and actress had lived in Toronto since 1966. She passed away on August 8.

During her career, the one that many nicknamed the first lady of the blues in Canada notably recorded two albums with Horace Silver. His show with the Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir has also been recorded, as has his performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

The stamp will be unveiled on April 21 at a ceremony in Toronto.
