A staging by Xavier Huard at the Centaur in the fall

The Centaur Theater unveiled its 2023-2024 program on Thursday evening, entitled “Building the future at Centaur”.

Indeed, next season will be one of transformation and reconstruction to relaunch this Old Montreal theater on new foundations, literally and figuratively. Because the Anglo-Montreal company will launch a first phase of renovations to its historic building. Work will begin this summer.

“The renovation of our main hall (Centaur 2) will be a major transformation for us, because not only will we increase the creative capacity of our theater, but we will renew our commitment to make Centaur a place of welcome of the best theatrical productions in Montreal,” said artistic director Eda Holmes in a press release.

“Our ever-changing world is changing rapidly. I will ensure that the Centaur continues to present on stage a plurality of voices, in all their singularity. »

The season will open on October 17 with the English production of the play alterNatives, directed by Xavier Huard and written by author Drew Hayden Taylor. An irreverent comedy from one of Canada’s greatest Aboriginal playwrights, known as the “Native Neil Simon”.

“Drew Hayden Taylor brings his legendary wit and cultural perspective to this ironic look at contemporary social dynamics,” summarizes the press release from Menuentakuan, the company producing the play.

During the work of Centaur 2, the shows will be presented in room 1. To find out about the titles of the other productions and the activities for the 2023-24 season, you can consult the Centaur website.
