Launched at full speed into her Celebration Tour, the star offered a true best-of of her career spanning four decades, in front of fans won over by a show that was at times breathtaking.
As often, she was late, only an hour, punctuated by applause. But apparently it was a simple technical problem. The show begins, Madonna appears, sings and even apologizes. “This time it wasn’t my fault.”, she swears. For two and a half hours, she unfolds all her hits, through scenes designed to impress, retracing her forty-year career in the smallest details, provocations included.
The star, very invested in the design of the show
The show is moving when the faces of her friends who fell victim to AIDS in the 1990s appear, or when she talks about her time in intensive care a few months ago. There are a few lengths, inevitably, but the troupe of dancers takes care of restoring energy, under the eyes of the French collective (La) Horde, who choreographed the tour. “She really explained her entire career to us, giving us lots of keys”explains one of the members of the collective before another adds: “It’s true that she is invested in each place of the creation of her works, of her shows. For us, it has been an exciting adventure.”
The fans are obviously delighted and appreciated “her way of being, her style, everything! It’s Madonna, it’s a show. I love her”confides a spectator. “It’s been forty years and she’s still here.”notes another spectator, admiringly, while another becomes enthusiastic: “I take my hat off to him, I say bravo to him. He’s our icon.” This mother who came with her daughter thinks back with emotion to the participation in the concert, on stage, of three of the singer’s children: “It’s great the journey she has with her children.” And his daughter added: “We came together so it looked like us.” Without musicians on stage, with a lot of recorded tapes, Madonna is at the center of the show. The singer is the beating heart, proud and militant, of a show celebrating her status as an icon who has crossed all fashions.
