A white coat covered southern Quebec on Saturday. The flakes will stop falling on Sunday, but the snow should stay until Christmas.
Quebecers from several regions in the south of the province woke up to a white carpet on Saturday morning.
In Montreal, snow accumulations reached between 25 and 35 centimeters at the end of the day, according to Julien Chartrand, meteorologist at Environment Canada.
The City announced its first full snow loading operation of the season, which should begin gradually throughout the territory by Monday.
From the Outaouais to the Montérégie, the snowfalls were also impressive: up to 30 centimeters or more depending on the sector.
This accumulation of snow, while delighting winter sports enthusiasts, puts the province in a good position to have a white Christmas next week, confirms Mr. Chartrand.
“We’re going to have a white Christmas in Montreal, that’s for sure, and in most regions of Quebec,” he says.
In the Capitale-Nationale region, the accumulations were less significant. “The snow started much later than in the south of the province,” says Chartrand.

More snow on Sunday
The system is gradually moving towards the east of the province, but losing its intensity, according to the meteorologist. In Montreal, the snow will be over before Sunday, but the clouds will remain. For its part, the Centre-du-Québec can expect a few snowflakes.
About ten centimeters of snow should fall on the Bas-Saint-Laurent and Gaspésie regions from Sunday.
However, the northern shore of Gaspésie could receive a greater quantity of snow due to its geographical position. The regions of Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Gaspé, Percé and Murdochville are currently the subject of a special weather report forecasting significant amounts of snow on Monday.
Airport delays, road delays
This broadside caused numerous delays and flight cancellations at Montreal’s Pierre-Elliott-Trudeau airport.
Precipitation can also affect visibility on provincial roads. As of Saturday, the Sûreté du Québec reported road trips, but no major accidents.
On Saturday morning, visibility was reduced on certain roads in Estrie and the Hautes-Laurentides, according to the interactive map of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
