A snowstorm expected in southern Quebec on Friday

(Montreal) Sliding sports enthusiasts will have reason to rejoice: significant amounts of snow should cover a large part of southern Quebec starting Friday.

Environment Canada predicts snow accumulations of up to 15 to 20 centimeters by Saturday afternoon for several regions of the province.

These precipitations are the results of a depression going up the American east coast, explains the federal agency in its weather alerts.

In the Montreal metropolitan area, the snow should start falling Friday morning, then intensify in the early evening. The same scenario is expected in the Mauricie and Estrie regions, where accumulations could however reach up to 25 centimeters.

For the Outaouais, Environment Canada warns that snow could fall at a rate of 1 to 2 centimeters per hour at its strongest.

In the case of the greater Quebec City region, the snowfall is rather expected this weekend with a possible accumulation of 15 centimeters.

The meteorological agency urges the population to be careful on the roads, while road conditions could be more difficult in many parts of the province.
