A snowmobiler dies in a swerve in Thetford Mines

(Montreal) A snowmobiler lost his life following a swerve that occurred Saturday in Thetford Mines, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.


Emergency services were notified Saturday evening, around 9:30 p.m., about the accident which occurred on a snowmobile trail.

“According to initial information, the snowmobiler was traveling on trail number 10 heading north when, for reasons that are still under investigation, he left the road before ending up in the ditch,” said Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“Resuscitation maneuvers were carried out on the snowmobiler, who is a 50-year-old man. He was taken to the hospital center, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead,” said the SQ spokesperson.

The identity of the victim was not immediately released.

The man was part of a group of snowmobilers during his hike, but no one witnessed his swerve, according to initial reports.

The Sûreté du Québec investigation continues.
