Riots in New Caledonia: a slow return to normal
Riots in New Caledonia: a slow return to normal
(France 2)

New Caledonia continues its gradual return to normal, Wednesday May 29, after several weeks of an acute crisis, marked by the death of seven people, roadblocks and damage.

For several days, the clashes have been clearly decreasing and strategic sites such as the hospital and fuel depots have become accessible again. The fact remains that the end of the state of emergency has not changed much in the daily lives of Caledonians, the curfew remains in force as does the ban on the sale of alcohol and the transport of weapons.

As for the queues in front of the stores, they are only reducing very slowly, the supply of the capital being done in dribs and drabs. Many businesses remain closed and shelves are almost empty. Many residents fear shortages. Despite the lifting of numerous blockades, traffic remains difficult to transport food and the supply problem affects the entire archipelago.
