In Florida (United States), the video of an American catching a Burmese python with his bare hands went around the world. This species, which came from Asia, is increasingly invasive in the region.
On the side of a road in the Big National Reserve Cypress in Florida (USA), the longest python ever seen in the state is sighted. Barely spotted, the animal first tries to flee, but At after a few seconds, hetre-attacks the man who tries to catch him. The amateur hunter grabs him by the neck, and struggles for several minutes at the risk of his life. “I approached, and I thought to myself that I could grab him by the head. But then he went completely crazy”, explains Jack Waleri.
56 pounds
Nearly six meters long for 56 kilos, this Burmese python is not the first captured in the Everglades. It would be thousands, while Florida tries to get rid of it at all costs. The python would destroy the local fauna. “If it has become so giganticis that it largely fed on our native species”, says Ian Easterling, biologist. Every year, a competition is organized to regulate the number of pythons in the region.
