Just over 27% of service stations were struggling to get fuel on the morning of Saturday, October 15. If the government assures that the situation will be restored for All Saints, doubts remain.
Will there be fuel at service stations on All Saints Day? The government assures it, betting on a lifting of the strike in the Esso refineries and on the requisitions at TotalEnergies. These are beginning to bear fruit in terms of supply in Hauts-de-France, where the number of service stations in difficulty has fallen from 50% to 22%, again according to the government. “Not to mention that France can always rely on its reserves, its strategic stocks, planned to last 90 days”adds journalist Sophie Lanson.
Several experts have doubts about these optimistic projections. “There is still a whole logistics to restart, which takes time. Even by reopening the largest depots, it is then necessary that these infrastructures, via pipelines, irrigate the approximately 200 French local depots”, continues Sophie Lanson. These depots will then have to supply the 11,000 French service stations. In the meantime, Esso-ExxonMobil has indicated that a return to normal in its refineries will not take place for two to three weeks.
