Marc Fesneau, Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo”, Saturday March 2. Agreement on the price of milk, egg throwing and whistles at the Agricultural Show… He answered questions from Agathe Lambret and Jean-Rémi Baudot.

Milk price: an agreement “also welcomed” by producers

“A significant step has been taken”greets Marc Fesneau after the agreement reached between the giant Lactalis and the National Union of Lactalis Livestock Breeders (Unell), which sets 425 euros for 1,000 liters of milk for the first quarter of 2024. “This is the base price 425. Generally, increases or bonuses linked to the quality of the milk are added. Then, at the start of the negotiations, we started with a price of 405 euros”the minister insisted.

“Has everything been settled? Probably not. But we are starting from a basic price which is still more in line with the image we can have of the remuneration that milk producers must receive.”

“I am in front of an agreement which is also welcomed by the national association of milk producers” , notes the Minister of Agriculture. Like him “is not a Soviet”Marc Fesneau “will therefore not interfere in a negotiation that a certain number of partners consider to be going in the right direction”. He concedes, however, that he “will probably have to go further” and that the discussions “will continue”.

Agricultural Show: clashes “harm the image of farmers”

“We must not summarize the reality of what I perceived on the aisles of the Show [de l’agriculture] for eight days to a minority, even if it is active”, assures Marc Fesneau. He was the target of egg throwing and whistles Friday afternoon at the Agricultural Show in the company of the Minister of Ecological Transition and Agriculture Christophe Béchu.

The minister says “to regret” these acts emanating from a “around twenty” of people, some of whom claimed to be members of the departmental federation of the FNSEA of Seine-et-Marne. According to him, this type of action “harm to the image of agriculture and farmers”.

“I’ve been at the show for eight days and I’ve met people who have demands, concerns, and have expressed their requests”explains the minister. “Many tell us ‘we know that you work, that you act’”he continues, adding that “things are moving forward” even if “as it is a multifaceted crisis, (…) it could be long”.
