Five people died after a gunman opened fire at a condo building Sunday night in the Ontario town of Vaughan, before being shot by police.
Authorities first received a call for the presence of an armed person around 7:20 p.m. and later became aware that a shooting was in progress.
The event reportedly took place in a multi-story condo building near Rutherford Road and Jane Street in Vaughan, a town 30 kilometers north of Toronto.
So far, there have been six deaths including the shooter, York Regional Police said.
The man believed to be behind the shooting was shot dead by authorities after an ‘interaction’ with law enforcement, the media confirmed. Log Constable Maniva Armstrong.
“This is a large residential building, and investigators need to check it in its entirety to confirm the information,” she said. This is a very serious incident.”

Important deployment
Due to the severity of the event, paramedics dispatched five ambulances, two special response vehicles and a multi-patient vehicle, Global News reported.
The motives for the attack were not known at the time of going to press late Sunday evening.
However, it is reported that victims have been found in more than one condo unit, according to CBC News.
It was also too early to know what the connection was between the suspect and those shot.
According to Constable Laura Nicolle, the police are currently trying to contact the relatives of the victims.
Thus, no information concerning them can be revealed for the moment.
Police also said the Special Investigations Unit, the equivalent of the Independent Investigations Office in Ontario, had been notified.
