A she-wolf was shot dead on Saturday, August 24 in the commune of Les Villedieu near Mouthe, in Doubs, a village located on the border with Switzerland, after several wolf attacks in the department since the beginning of the year, France Bleu Besançon reported on Monday.

According to the prefecture, this wolf was killed by a gunshot “framed” carried out by a pair of lieutenants in wolf hunting, three days after the attack of a herd on the same plot. “The shot was fired as the wolf returned to a plot of land belonging to a herd of heifers that had been attacked three days earlier by two wolves.”explains the prefecture, which indicates that this shooting was authorized by the ministerial decree of October 23, 2020.

“The observations made by the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB), a few moments after the shooting, establish that it was carried out under the conditions required by the regulations”continues the prefecture.

The Doubs prefecture finally specifies that seven wolf attacks on herds have been recorded in the department since February 2024. In 2022, two wolves were killed in Doubs by simple defense shots.
