The prices of many products have fallen on the shelves. But is the decline sustainable? Response elements.

On the shelves or at the checkout, prices have been falling in recent days. “I see at the end, when I pay“, confides a customer. Hundreds of products have seen their prices drop since June, by 5% to 7%. The operation was made possible thanks to price renegotiations. A lasting decline?

On the shelves, count -5.7% on average for sweets, -10% for canned vegetables, -15% for oil and up to -20% for natural yoghurts. In total, 1,000 products are concerned for the summer. The declines may not last until the end of the year, however. “A lasting decline will depend on energy costs, (…) packaging costs, (…) harvests, seasons and consumption”explains Yves Puget, editorial director of LSA magazine.
