A municipal councilor from Sevran (Seine-Saint-Denis) Philippe Geffroy has been in police custody since Tuesday May 16, for acts of violence with a weapon by destination and act of intimidation of police officers, according to information from franceinfo from a source close to the file on Wednesday May 17. A policewoman filed a complaint against the elected official.

According to the first elements of the investigation, this man asserted his status as an elected official in front of the police responsible for securing the perimeter of an accident on the public highway, rue Gabriel Péri. The latter refused to allow the elected representative to cross the security perimeter, but the municipal councilor who – according to the testimony of the police – was angry and aggressive, forced the roadblock. It was there that he hit the knee of a civil servant with his car.

This municipal councilor felt unwell during his arrest

The elected official continued on his way, and from a source familiar with the matter at franceinfo, he called the local commissioner to complain about the attitude of his agents. The police waited until the next day to arrest him, when he was again driving his car. The firefighters had to intervene, because during his arrest, the local elected official felt unwell, but the firefighters deemed it unnecessary to take him to the hospital. The municipal councilor of Sevran was therefore placed in police custody.

Contacted by franceinfo, the mayor of Sevran Stéphane Blanchet shows up “pretty surprised”. He estimates that “elected officials must be exemplary”.
