After France, it’s Spain’s turn to see its matches interrupted by the throwing of projectiles. The match between Betis Sevilla and Sevilla FC, on the occasion of the knockout stages of the Copa del Rey, on Saturday January 15, was definitively stopped after Joan Jordan (Sevilla FC) received a bar in the head, sent from the stands. The player immediately collapsed on the lawn.

The incident took place in the 39th minute of play, just after Nabil Fekir equalized for Betis. As the players began to move towards the central circle after celebrating the goal, a bar thrown from the stands of the Benito-Villamarin stadium (that of Betis Sevilla) hit the head of the Sevillian midfielder.
The players of Sevilla FC headed for the locker room and those of Betis waited on the lawn for the referee’s decision, to find out if the match was going to be suspended or if it was going to resume. Finally, the Spanish federation clarified in a press release that it was not going to resume.
This event recalls the incidents that have taken place in France in recent weeks. During the OL-OM meeting on November 21, Dimitri Payet was hit by a bottle at the very beginning of the meeting. The match was interrupted and never resumed.
