A serious accident between a beer truck and an SUV in Mauricie

A serious road accident involving a vehicle and a heavy truck forced the complete closure of Route 155 for part of the morning, Friday, in the Trois-Rives sector, north of Shawinigan, in Mauricie.

The collision, described as “major” by the Sûreté du Québec, occurred around 9 a.m., near kilometer 63 of Route 155. It involved a sport utility vehicle and a Coors Light beer semi-trailer truck.

Local firefighters used extrication pliers to free the driver of the sport utility vehicle, which was transformed into a pile of scrap metal upon impact. The driver suffered injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, authorities said. He was conscious throughout the ambulance ride to the hospital.

The truck driver was not injured.

According to the authorities, the driver of the SUV deviated from his lane to hit the heavy goods vehicle which was coming in the opposite direction. A distraction could be a factor in this accident, according to police.

Route 155 was completely closed to traffic for part of the morning.
