A septuagenarian was found dead Monday evening in a burnt apartment in the borough of Le Sud-Ouest, in Montreal.
Firefighters were called to respond around 11:50 p.m. to a fire alarm in an apartment building on rue Saint-Antoine, near rue Vinet, the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) reported.
When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the 72-year-old man in his apartment where he was pronounced dead.
“According to initial information, a fire started in the victim’s home, for a reason that is still unknown,” said a spokesperson for the SPVM, officer Caroline Chèvrefils.
No other people were injured, police said.
The investigation is under the responsibility of the SPVM’s arson section, which will try to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this event.
