A septuagenarian dies drowned on the site of the wind farm in Erquy in the Côtes d’Armor

It is at this large Caroual beach in Erquy (Côtes d’Armor) that the future offshore wind farm in the bay of Saint-Brieuc will be connected to the electricity grid. Two trenches 60 meters wide and 250 meters long in particular were dug here in the sand to bury the cables. And it is in one of these trenches, which has not yet been filled in, that this woman fell on Monday afternoon.

She is walking in the water, at low tide, with her husband and her daughter a little further. She got mid-calf water when she falls into this hole filled with water from a depth of four to six meters. In a fraction of a second, she no longer has her feet.

A signaling fault?

Rescued by a witness, she died shortly after being taken out of the water, despite an attempt at resuscitation. The SAMU helicopter from Saint-Brieuc was dispatched to the scene. One death by drowning according to the findings of the autopsy. All this information comes to us this Tuesday evening from Nicolas Heitz, the public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc which indicates that a manslaughter investigation is open. It will have to determine if any faults have been committed, particularly in terms of signalling.
