Vaccination in France of a new age group: children from 5 to 11 years old, should open Wednesday 22 December. The favorable opinion has already been given by the ethics committee, with a lighter dosage than for adults. An injection which remains a sensitive subject and provokes debates within families.

So-called pediatric vaccines are reserved for them, three times less dosed than those of adults. They will have to come back in three weeks for a recall. If today only children at risk can be vaccinated, Wednesday December 22, vaccination should open to five million 5-11 year olds.
An announcement that is not unanimous among parents. However, for epidemiologists, this vaccination of the youngest is currently necessary. “The risk of a child, in a class of 25 students, of becoming infected during the day is a one in five chance, therefore an extremely high transmission rate”, warns Philippe Amouyel, epidemiologist, professor of public health at the Lille University Hospital (North). The High Authority for Health is due to issue its opinion on Monday, December 20. It will be based on American data, where the youngest are already vaccinated.
