Patrick Bélanger, deputy director at the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), will be the new big boss of investigations at the Longueuil agglomeration police service (SPAL).

A resolution ratifying the arrival of Mr. Bélanger at SPAL was adopted Thursday evening at the Longueuil Agglomeration Council.
Patrick Bélanger, 52, had a 30-year career at the SQ during which he mainly held investigative functions, notably in the Organized Crime Division and the Anti-Contraband Section.
At the SQ, Mr. Bélanger was – and will remain so until November 4 – deputy director of territorial surveillance.
At SPAL, he will occupy a new position, that of deputy director of investigations, and will be one of the two deputy directors of Chief Fady Dagher.
The name of Patrick Bélanger has been circulating for a few weeks as a possible candidate for the leadership race of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). This appointment adopted Thursday evening at the Longueuil agglomeration council will therefore silence the rumours.
Mr. Bélanger had also been in the last race for the leadership of the SQ, won by Johanne Beausoleil.
