After a first discovery of a wolf in the department of Vienne last March, the prefecture announced Tuesday, November 30 that a second wolf was spotted this Sunday in the department, reports France Bleu Poitou. This wolf was discovered south-east of Poitiers on Sunday, in the town of Marçay.

It was the agents of the French Biodiversity Office who identified the animal on the video provided by the witness. According to the prefecture of Vienne, this discovery can be explained by the phenomenon of “dispersion”. A phenomenon generally observed in the fall and at the beginning of winter during which members of a pack leave a group to seek a new territory in which to settle. These wolves alone can then travel up to 800 km before establishing themselves.

A body of a first wolf observed in the department was discovered in March 2021, near a railway line in the town of Lathus-Saint-Rémy, on the south-eastern fringe of the department. It was a young male. In 2021, other wolves were spotted in Vendée, Loire-Atlantique or even Indre-et-Loire.
