It is an understatement to say that the Mayennais Hugo Sisternes dominates the discipline of combined events in his Espoirs category. This weekend at Miramas in the Bouches-du-Rhône, the young licensee from US Saint-Berthevin struck a blow again during the indoor combined event world championships. Fourteen events on the program. Favorite in his category in Espoirs, Hugo Sisternes responded to the tetradecathlon by being crowned world champion.
An injury almost put everything in question
The competition ended late Sunday evening with the 5000 meter event: “it was very very hard” admits Hugo Sisternes. “On Saturday, I performed well. But on Sunday, I injured my hamstring. I almost couldn’t finish because I couldn’t walk anymore (sic). But I fought until the end, beyond the pain“. An exceptional strength of character for someone who started athletics in 2015.
The Mayenne also broke the world record for the specialty in his category.
Last summer, Hugo Sisternes had already won the world title in icosathlon (20 events) at Épinal in the Vosges.
