A second suspect was arrested on Tuesday, June 15, in the investigation into the disappearance in the Amazon of British journalist Dom Phillips and Brazilian indigenous specialist Bruno Pereira. 41 years old and “suspected of involvement in the case”, this man must be taken into custody, announced the Brazilian federal police. Officers also seized firearm cartridges and a paddle during a search.

A first suspect, a fisherman also aged 41, was arrested on June 7. Witnesses said they saw him pass at high speed on board a boat going in the same direction as the boat of Dom Phillips and Bruno Pereira, shortly before their disappearance. Traces of blood on his boat are being analyzed and personal effects of the two missing were found underwater near the home of this suspect, who denied any involvement. No link between the two suspects has yet been specified by an official source.

The two experts have were last seen on June 5, when they took a boat on an expedition to the Javari region, which is difficult to access and considered dangerous due to the presence of all kinds of traffickers.
