Urban violence took place for the second consecutive night in Cholet, the Maine-et-Loire prefecture announced on Saturday June 29, specifying that there were no injuries. During the night from Friday to Saturday, in the Jean-Monnet district, “Around twenty masked individuals moving in small groups set fire to several vehicles between 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., then at the end of the night”specified the prefecture of Maine-et-Loire in a press release broadcast on X.

During their intervention, the police and firefighters were the “projectile target”. To secure firefighter operations, “The police had to use force to disperse the perpetrators of the damage”specifies the prefecture.

During the night from Thursday to Friday, municipal police officers had already been targeted by mortar fire in this same district, according to France 3 Pays de la Loire. The prefect, Philippe Chopin, announced that the presence of the national police had been reinforced since Friday. “There are some minor tensions from time to time, but over the last two nights, we have had some slightly more serious cases, with reinforcements being sent from Angers and Nantes,” Cholet mayor Gilles Bourdouleix told AFP on Saturday. “There are 30 or 40 young people, generally minors, who cause trouble, it remains confined to this neighborhood, there are no external spillovers”he clarified.
