The Gulf Times, one of the few English-language newspapers in Qatar, reported the death of Khalid al-Misslam in a very short publication on its website.

The Al-Kass photojournalist died “suddenly while covering the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. We believe in Allah’s mercy and forgiveness and send our deep condolences to his family,” writes the Gulf-Times.

The cause and circumstances of the Qatari’s death are not specified.

The announcement comes about 48 hours after renowned American journalist Grant Wahl collapsed in a press box towards the end of a match between Argentina and the Netherlands on Friday.

According to the American daily The Wall Street Journal, the journalist would have succumbed to a heart attack.

Prior to the November 21 United States-Wales encounter, Wahl was held back by security personnel at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium because he was wearing a rainbow-coloured shirt, had he explained on Twitter.

Thus, the deceased’s brother, Eric Wahl, himself a homosexual, alleged in an Instagram video that it was a murder.

“There is a climate of suspicion, there is a rumor machine, and above all a conspiracy mentality. This is why we sometimes lose lucidity when dealing with files suitable for Qatar, ”explained to the Journal Sami Aoun, professor of political science at the University of Sherbrooke.
