A second arrest in the case of the attempted murder of Leonardo Rizzuto

The police announced Monday morning a second arrest in connection with the attempted murder that occurred on March 15 on Highway 440 West, in Laval.

Early last Friday, a 32-year-old man from Mascouche, in Lanaudière, was arrested in connection with this case. The arrest of a 34-year-old man on Monday took place in the Rivière-des-Prairies district.

According to several news outlets, the victim of this attempted murder is an organized crime figure, Leonardo Rizzuto, the son of former alleged Montreal Mafia boss Vito Rizzuto. However, this information was not confirmed by the police officers of the National Organized Crime Squad (ENRCO).

On the day of the armed robbery, around 4:30 p.m., the victim was traveling in his black Mercedes vehicle, near exit 17 giving access to Highway 13. According to the police, the occupant of a vehicle black Porsche Macan would have fired several times towards the victim’s car.

The investigation then revealed that a second vehicle, another Porsche Macan, this time red, could also have been linked to this attempted murder. It is not known whether the man arrested on Monday was in this second vehicle.

After the shooting, the driver of the Mercedes took Highway 13 southbound and drove to the parking lot of a funeral complex in the Sainte-Dorothée district. He had his life saved.

Marks from several firearm projectiles were very apparent on his vehicle.

The arrest of the suspects on Friday and Monday came days after the National Organized Crime Squad and officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) Major Crimes Investigation Division established a mobile command post on boulevard des Laurentides, in Laval, near the intersection of boulevard Saint-Elzéar. It appears the victim was seen at an establishment in this area shortly before the attack on Highway 440.
